Uittreksel
The artist in Rob Møhlmann awoke at the age of 16, but was not given a chance at home. At 21 'escaped' he complied with strict parental authority and left for Amsterdam with 750 guilders and his grandfather's easel. He developed entirely under his own steam into a special realist at a time when realistic painting had been declared dead. Nevertheless, he remained faithful to this art form, defending it where he could, and even set up a national platform for it: Museum Møhlmann. Also on his own. Rob Møhlmann (1956) recently turned 65 and wanted to look back on his life up to that point with 3 different exhibitions and 3 books. That life got a sharp blow in 2010 when his love and muse Laura passed away. Three years later he stopped painting for good and chose his museum. Since then he considers it his 'new work of art' which he continues to build tirelessly. This is not only expressed in adjustments and renovations, but also in, for example, a versatile collection formation. Not to mention the many publications (60 since 1981) and exhibitions (80 since 1998). A good part of this book is about those 'other-than-artistic works', but they do have everything to do with art and its pre-existence. And with work, because before dreams become reality. This book is part 1 of a 3-part series, in which each part is based on an autobiographical fact: Leven-Geboortejaar-Handicap. Exhibition: Museum Møhlmann, Appingedam, The Netherlands (03.04.- 31.07.2022).
