Uittreksel

"Monochrome-glaze porcelains reached a peak of success during the Ch'ing dynasty (AD 1644-1911). The finest pieces in this category attained a broad range of colors through the use of metals such as copper, iron, cobalt,, gold and antimony in the glaze-pigment composition; due to variations in firing temperature and kiln atmosphere, it often occurred that no two pieces of these types came out exactly alike. Beautiful copies of earlier glazes were also made during this period, such as the Sung-dynasty Ju, Kuan, Chün, Ko and celadon glazes, or the ruby-red, tender-yellow and chi-ch'ing blue glazes of the Ming. Moreover, the field was broadened by the creation of new glazes such as famille-rose, tender green and Lu-Chün. The artisans at the Ch'ing imperial kilns maintained effortless control over vessel shapes and decors, and matched these perfectly with the various glaze colors, thus attaining a highly expressive level of artisanship that has made their work very rare and fine"--Preface.
