Lines from East Asia: Japanese and Chinese Art on Paper

Uittreksel

Japanese and Chinese color woodblock prints are among those images that are aesthetically immediately appealing. You don't need to have any profound background knowledge to be immediately drawn in by the filigree lines, the shadowless two-dimensional patterns or the bold image sections. And yet, those who know more will see much more. In the book, interested laypeople are taken on a journey of discovery based on the high-quality and diverse collection of East Asian art in the ETH Zurich Graphic Collection. The reading is intended to enable you to move from a merely fascinated to a knowledgeable viewer who can reliably recognize and classify recurring features. The book is the result of a fruitful collaboration between the ETH Zurich Graphic Collection and the Chair of East Asian Art History at the University of Zurich.
