Etablissements Edgar Brandt

Door

Uittreksel

A major figure in both the history of wrought ironwork and French decorative art, Edgar Brandt issued this bold catalog at the height of his career. By then, Brandt's artistic blacksmithing had drawn acclaim at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes and other exhibitions, and his reputation as a designer was well-established through commissions for important municipal and cultural projects including doors for the Palais de Justice, the Mollien staircase at the Louvre and the Eternal Flame Monument at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Paris shown at right. This publication highlights the details for which Brandt was known, from graceful wall and torchère lighting to fire screens with stylized flowers and bronze arabesques. It also features Brandt’s weapon designs for WWII, oxy-acetylene torch-welded munitions.
