Kistje met zeven granaatbuizen

Royal Laboratory, 1867 - 1872

Klein houten kistje met zeven granaatbuizen voor puntgranaten. Drie buizen zijn dubbel, eenmaal heel, eenmaal een helft van een overlangs doorgesneden buis. Deze drie paren stellen de volgende buizen voor: de Field service time-fuse (Armstrong buis type E), de Field service time and concussion-fuse (Armstrong buis type F) en de Armstrong Plain field service concussion-fuse. De zevende buis, zonder schroefdraad, is de Field service concussion-fuse (Armstrong buis type C), die in combinatie met type E gebruikt kon worden.

Toelichting

  • Dit kistje werd in 1872 aan de Marinemodellenkamer aangeboden door de Inspecteur der Artillerie. Deze buizen werden o.a. gebruikt op de spring- en segmentgranaten van het 7 en 9 inch Armstrong kanon. In 1874 werden aan boord van de Vulkaan proeven gedaan.

Entry

Small box with seven fuses for pointed shells.

Three of the fuses are double, one whole, one half of a bisected fuse to show the interior. The three pairs represent the field service time fuse (Armstrong fuse type E), the field service time and concussion fuse (Armstrong fuse type F) and the Armstrong Plain field service concussion fuse. The seventh fuse, the one without a thread, is the field service concussion fuse (Armstrong fuse type C), which could be used in combination with type E.

The box was added to the Navy Model Room by the Inspector of Artillery in 1872.2HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 31/5/1872 N34A. These fuses were used for shells and segment shells of 7 and 9 inches. In 1874 trials were performed on the ship Vulkaan.3HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 22/8/1874 N5A.
