Silver city: 500 years of Portsmouth's history

Abstract

This richly-illustrated book accompanies the silver city exhibition at Portsmouth Museum & Art Gallery. It showcases the city's fantastic collection of civic silver, which is one of the largest in the UK. Written by our curators, this book explores the role that these objects have played in the history of Portsmouth. Starting with the Bodkin Cup from the 16th century, the book features images of many iconic objects, ranging from the amazing silver-plated model of HMS Victory to a Suffragette's hunger strike medal.
