Abstract
Vol. 1: Deutschsprachiger Raum ohne Nürnberg; vol. 2: Nürnberg.0Furniture was part of the holdings of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum from the very beginning, initially pieces stemming from the Middle Ages, or what were thought to be at the time. Gifts and purchases of cupboards, trunks, tables, and other furniture enlarged the holdings, but it was not until younger objects were also acquired by the first-class collection that it took on the distinct character it has today. With this series of publications, a first attempt is being made to compile a comprehensive inventory catalogue: the two-part volume is devoted to cupboards and dressers from the period between 1650 and 1800 from germanophone regions or from Nuremberg. The publication records them from an art-technological perspective, arranges them in art historical terms, and documents them with numerous brilliant photo-graphs. Specialist authors describe further interesting aspects such as the types of wood, paper, and tools that were used, or historical locks and keys.
