Photo archives and the photographic memory of art history

Abstract

The essays, originally presented at conferences in London and Florence, and collected here in revised form, investigate the phenomenom of art reproduction, the scholarly use of photography and the institutionalization of photo archives. The main themes that link the contributions are the materiality of the photographic object and the archive itself, as a site of scholarship.
