Lines of friendship: art historical essays commemorating Robert-Jan te Rijdt (1955-2024)
Abstract
"The essays in this publication are written in memory of Robert-Jan te Rijdt, former curator at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, who passed away in November 2024 and who was the worldwide expert in the field of Dutch drawings from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Among the 57 colleagues and friends from the Netherlands and abroad who contributed to the book are many renowned academics. It is a wide ranging publication with subjects from the late sixteenth century to the present day, but with a strong focus on the eighteenth century. All visual arts are represented: paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, applied arts, and garden architecture. Included are also articles devoted to Robert-Jan's favourite artists of the eighteenth century: Jacob de Wit (1695-1754), Cornelis Troost (1696-1750), and Aert Schouman (1710-1792)." -- Back cover.
