Keep Greenland a secret

Abstract

"I made my first trip to Greenland to do a photo project on mail boats. It was in the early spring of 2015. There was still plenty of snow and by the end of the trip the sun had stopped setting. The Greenland mail boat Sarfaq Ittuk sailed from the southern tip of Greenland to Ilulissat on Disko Bay. There we sailed amidst towering icebergs. I thought it was beautiful and exhilarating. I soon decided to go back and did so in 2018 and 2019. However, it was not only the scenery that captivated me, it was also the people who lived there. For both, landscape and inhabitants, the major changes that are (going to be) taking place as a result of the melting of the Greenland ice sheet will have enormous consequences. This photo book is the second part of my Greenlandic experiences. In the first volume, I took a geographical perspective, painting a picture of western and eastern Greenland. That book was published in July 2020 in an edition of 110 copies and is now also available in Greenland. In this second volume, a certain deepening takes place and I zoom in on three settlements: the centrally located village of Kangerlussuaq, the small village of Oqaatsut and the town of Uummannaq."-- Foreword (page 7).
