Abstract

"Ostend and James Ensor (1860-1949) are inextricably linked. James Ensor loved his hometown; she was his muse and source of inspiration. Museums, collectors and art lovers worldwide are warm to his avant-garde art. In 1894 he says confidentially that he has 'carefully studied the most opposing approaches.'"
