Ewerdt Hilgemann: the Belgian connection

Abstract

This book was published in association with the Verbeke Foundation on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Ewerdt Hilgemann, the accompanying presentation of his work and film Compressed History, 1984-2018 (Homage to César)--chronicling the process of creating a compression of some twenty old works in corten/weathering and stainless steel into one total sculpture--and the performance of a live implosion event of the first large, hanging cube Hanging Cube. The focus of the book is on the artist’s long-standing connection with Belgium.
