Abstract
Tekst op achterflap: The 80 Years' War began with a limited Dutch rebellion seeking only religious toleration from their Spanish overlords, but ended with an independent republic recognized as a global power. During the phase between 1588 and 1610 Maurice of Nassau built a new, tightly-drilled infantry which set an example for the rest of Europe. But cavalry also remained a decisive asset; and the campaigns he and his successors led included some 150 sieges, which depended upon artillery and engineers. This book explains the evolution of those arms as a whole; it is illustrated with photographs, period engravings, and meticulous colour plates of the soldiers, their equipment and their flags.
