Collage in Russia: XX century

Abstract

Theoretical and historical articles on what was a new genre of the twentieth century (apparently originating with Braques and Picasso) and a large and varied selection of collages make up this Russian Museum exhibition catalogue. Many Russian artists, having gained fame from other work, were attracted by the collage, its new possibilities of multiple and synchronous meaning: for example, V. Lebedev, O. Rozanova, M. Vrubel, A. Lentulov, K. Malevich, I. Kliun, L. Popova, A. Exter, N. Goncharova, A. Rodchenko, N. Altman, and V. Tatlin, among others. -- Summary written by John W. Emerich, Bronze Horseman Literary Agency.
