Abstract
"Caja Boogers focuses on altering the perception of the viewer, believing that the formal elements of painting are inextricably connected to their experience. His work can vary from photorealistic paintings to monochrome abstractions. The artist’s current practice involves old analogue pictures from personal family albums and public archives of daily life in the former Dutch East Indies, which he references within his paintings. Boogers thus combines a painterly urge to comprehend an image with a deep personal nostalgia that persists within the Indo-Dutch community – a collective sentiment for a bygone era, or even a non-existent era, that is ultimately embedded in the artist’s upbringing"-- Provided by publisher.
