Annotations / title notes

  • Notes

    • "There are at least three versions of the catalogue. The earliest (Type A) lacks a number of lots that were added to the subsequent editions at the bottom of most pages, including lots 35a, 60a, 110a, 135a and 158a, as well as a second lot 76 .... The final version (Type B) ... has a lot 140a (a drawing) and lots 71-73 are radically changed, either to a different artist or title or both."--Getty Provenance Index databases.
    • According to Getty Provenance Index databases, "it is almost certain that there were more than two consigners and for the most part it has not proven possible to identify them." Sir George Bower and Thomas Jones, a banker, are named as possible consigners. See Description of sale catalog Br-1294.
