Abstract
10x10 Photobooks is a multi-platform ongoing series of photobook events organized by Matthew Carson, Russet Lederman and Olga Yatskevich. 10x10 American Photobooks presents 100 contemporary American photobooks selected by 10 specialists in a reading room and an additional 200 books online from the perspective of 10 American and 10 Japanese photobook specialists, who have each been asked to select 10 books. This publication is a comprehensive overview of the 10x10 American Photobooks project, it presents illustrated selection lists from all the specialists, along with essays on American photobook culture by noted artists, writers, publishers, curators and bibliophiles. Essays by David Levi Strauss, Tony White, Miwa Susuda, Ken Schles, Evan Mirapaul, Andrew Roth, Bernard Yenelouis, Michael Saur, Bryan Formhals and William E. Jones.

- The 10x10 American photobook reading room event previewed in Ten10Studios in Long Island City, New York, May 4-5, 2013, and at the PGH Photo Fair in Pittsburgh May 18-19, 2013. The Tokyo reading room event took place at the Tokyo Institute of Photography, September 11-October 6, 2013.
- Edition of 500. 4to.; illustrated throughout in color and black-and-white; newsprint booklet insert ("Japanese language online selections"); illustrated soft cover with printed vertical belly band (obi).
- Self Publish, Be Happy (SPBH) produced two special edition pamphlets for 10x10 American Photobooks (SPBH pamphlet III, and SPBH pamphlet IV). Edited by Nicholas Muellner and featuring newly commissioned work by Jason Fulford, Anouk Kruithof, Hillery Bosworth and Chris Mills. Inspired by the themes of 10x10, the pamphlets explore the character of the book collector: a figure of manias, fetishes, and mysteries. Both pamphlets were available for free during the Tokyo run of the reading room from September 11-October 6, 2013.
