With the succession of the French Philip V to the Spanish throne, unification of France and Spain seemed inevitable. The Allies refused to accept such an upset to the Continental balance of power. This print shows France and Spain’s devilish pact to split the world between them. Royal mistress Madame de Maintenon urinates onto the saw to wet the blade.

    Spotprent op Lodewijk XIV en Filips V die met een grote zaag de wereld in tweeën proberen te zagen. Bovenop de wereldbol zit Madame de Maintenon die op de zaag plast om het blad te smeren. Op de voorgrond een duivel met kardinaalshoed van Portocarrero. Spotprent op de situatie in het jaar 1706 in de Spaanse Successieoorlog. Op het blad om de plaat 4 kolommen in het Nederlands. Onderdeel van een reeks van 25 spotprenten op de Fransen en bondgenoten uit het jaar 1706.
