Joel Meyerowitz, 1968

Two visitors in a museum are looking at a collection of guns: for Meyerowitz this embodied the convergence of two polar opposites of American society in 1968. On the one hand many Americans were fascinated by firearms and war heroism, while on the other hand young American men were daily being killed in action in Vietnam. He tried to visualize this poignant contrast with subtle images, such as this one.
