Tea table

anonymous, c. 1750 - c. 1775

The 18th century saw the development of more and more furniture types for specific uses. This tea table has a raised edge to stop the tea set from falling off. The raised, openwork corners have a Chinese-looking pattern, a reference to the country from which tea originated.

    Mahoniehouten theetafel. De vier gestrekt S-vormige poten met bal en klauw lopen over in de tafelregel. Op de zwellingen is een schildvormige versiering aangebracht. De uitgezaagde tafelregel is aan de onderzijde afgezet met een aaneenschakeling van geprofileerde gestrekte S-motieven. De ruimte met de lade is gebombeerd. De lade heeft een symmetrisch uitgezaagde koperen slotplaat en twee gelijkvormige trekkers. Het blad heeft een opstaande rand met een ajour ruit- en waaiervormig versiersel op de hoeken.
