Soup plate

This soup plate is part of a large and very expensive service that was ordered from Sèvres by the French dealer Lefèvre, who delivered it to a Dutch client. Lefèvre bought large quantities of porcelain from the Sèvres factory between 1780 and 1788. He generally sold the porcelain through the shop run by his father and brother in Amsterdam.

    Soepbord van pâte-de-tendre porselein met oeil-de-perdrix rand op groen fond, waarin drie ovale en drie rechthoekige velden zijn uitgespaard. De ovale velden zijn beschilderd met klassieke profielportretten in grisaille; de rechthoekige velden, alsmede het plat, met vogels in kleuren. De vogels zijn aan de onderzijde van het bord in paars benoemd: Plongeon à gorge, rouge, de Cayenne; Manarin à front blanc de Cayenne; Barbu de Maynas; Manrin à gorge blanche. Randen geschilderd in goud. Gemerkt.
