Shoe Buckles with Case

anonymous, c. 1775 - c. 1800

Men’s shoes in the 18th century were quite plain in both shape and material. However, they could be decorated with buckles like these, which are made of silver and set with rhinestones. They even have their own pouch, suggesting they were used on special occasions, rather than every day.
