Prince Siddharta escaping from the Palace. Fragment from a stupa base. Pakistan, Gandhara 4th century. Schist. The prince, later to become the Buddha, is escaping from the palace on his horse. In Gandhara art, important events in the life of Buddha were often depicted in narrative reliefs. Mrs D. Vinkenborg-Condula bequest.
