Portrait of Abraham Bleekrode

Meijer Bleekrode (signed by artist), 1925

Abraham (Bram) Bleekrode, Meijer’s cousin (adjacent), was a successful violinist. He and his non-Jewish wife took a ten-year-old Jewish boy into hiding during the war. He had registered the child in his wedding certificate as their son Jan. In 1944 the Sicherheitsdienst (SS Intelligence Agency) raided the house and arrested Mr and Mrs Bleekrode and their ‘son.’ Bram was murdered in Buchenwald in 1945.
