Een patentglas in een houten patrijspoort. Het heeft een rond glas met de bolle, matte kant naar buiten uitstekend; aan de binnenzijde is het in de conische opening in het hout met een koperen ring vastgezet. Buitenop is met krassen een hoefijzervormig beslag aangegeven. Vergelijkbaar met MC-237-1.

Explanatory note

  • Deze modellen MC-236 t/m 238 vormen samen waarschijnlijk de serie modellen die besteld werden op grond van het voorstel van P. Schuijt, P. Glavimans Jz. en C. Soetermeer van 1832 voor glazen patrijspoorten in een bovenhoek van de geschutpoorten van linieschepen. Hun voorstel was geïnspireerd op het voorbeeld van de Waterloo (zie NG-MC-235) en volgde op hun beoordeling van de twee lichtglazen van P. Schuijt jr. (NG-MC-238-1 en NG-MC-238-2). Het glas van NG-MC-237-1 is waarschijnlijk identiek aan dat door P. Schuijt jr. voorgesteld (NG-MC-238-2).

Entry

Portlight, set in a wooden frame, with a round glass with the frosted convex side protruding outside. This glass is fixed with a copper ring in the conical opening on the inside. A horseshoe-shaped iron is indicated on the exterior with scratches.

Model numbers 236 and 238 as described by Obreen in his catalogue of 1858,1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, nos. 236-38. do not agree with the archival evidence2HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 28/5/1832 N18. nor with the existing models. This model is one of a series together with NG-MC-236, which were probably the models ordered after Pieter Schuijt Juniorsz (1797-1885), Pieter Glavimans Jansz (1768-1850) and Cornelis Soetermeer’s (1782-1842) suggestion in 1832 to place portlights in the upper corners of the gun ports of ships of the line. Their suggestion was inspired by the example of Waterloo (NG-MC-235) and followed inspection of the two portlights by Pieter Schuijt Juniorsz (NG-MC-238-1). According to Obreen these sidelights were commonly used by 1858.3J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 237.
