Palampore

anonymous, c. 1725 - c. 1750

This type of large cloth was usually thrown over a bed, stretched behind it, or hung throughout the room. It was known in Europe as a ‘palampore’, a name derived from the Persian and Hindi (India’s official language) ‘palangposh’. This cloth is decorated with the floweringtree motif.
