Ovoid bottle with a continuous pattern of floral scrolls

anonymous, anonymous, c. 1680 - c. 1720

Applied art from Japan. From 1641 to the mid-19th century, the Chinese and the Dutch were the only foreigners to trade with Japan. The curious physiognomy of the Dutch - to Japanese eyes - was a regular theme on objects of decorative art.
