Breakfast Service I

Hendrik Petrus Berlage, 1924

The Leerdam Glass Factory wanted to use the more costeffective pressed glass technique to make aesthetically pleasing, functional products accessible to a wide audience. The basic shapes of this service are the cylinder and the hexagon. The solid handles of the teapot and cups is a consequence of the press mould used in their production. The breakfast service was not a commercial success: not only was it very heavy, it was not heat-resistant.
