Model of a Windlass

Model van een braadspil op een vloerplank. De trommel, tussen twee wangen opgehangen, heeft acht doorlopende gaten voor windbomen: de braadspil kan ook bediend worden met een enkele windboom aan de stuurboord wang, die met een pal in een tandwiel grijpt. In het midden staat een stut met twee houten en vier metalen pallen, die in het tandwielgedeelte van de trommel grijpen om het teruglopen te voorkomen. Schaal 1:10 (schatting).

Entry

Construction model of a windlass, mounted on a base.

The barrel, supported by two carrick bitts, has eight through holes for handspikes. The windlass can also be operated with just one handspike,1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 208. fixed with a pawl on a cogwheel outside the starboard bitt. At the centre there is a post with two wooden and four metal pawls, engaging in the toothed section of the barrel to prevent it from turning back.
