Lacquer Box

Incense was kept in this ornate box. It contains small drawers of various sizes for the different types of incense. Everything fits together exactly. Incense was highly prized in Japan, yet this kind of lavishly decorated box was also avidly sought after by wealthy Europeans. The French queen Marie-Antoinette owned one.

    Rechthoekig lakdoosje met een deurtje aan de korte zijde. Achter dir deurtje zes laatjes en een blaadje. Alles versierd met bloeiende planten op rotsen in reliëf op goudlak fond. De bloemen in gekleurd materiaal. Scharnieren en slotplaten en hengsel van gegraveerd zilver. Slotplaat op deurtje en twee trekkers op laatjes ontbreken. Afkomstig van mevrouw H.S.C. von Hemert, geboren Barones Van Pallandt.
