KTN Jeep

Mohammad Toha Adimidjojo, 1949-06 - 1949-06-30

Second police action at Yogyakarta, Mohammad Toha, 1949. Mohammad Toha was 11 when the Dutch army occupied his native Yogyakarta during the second police action. He was one of a group of schoolchildren who recorded the events in the town in sketches on paper under the direction of the artist Dullah. This was an act of subversion and had to be kept secret. Toha pretended to be a cigarette vendor accompanied by his mother. In fact he kept his painting equipment in his cigarette box. He made sketches on scraps of paper and painted the final versions at home.
