Jug and Two Bottles

The jug was made in Japan, but its form is European. Moreover, the decorative painting – a landscape with figures – was probably based on a jug from Delft. In this way, Japanese potters catered to the wishes of Dutch enthusiasts. The bottles are painted with multicoloured enamel. This colourful export ware was in great demand in the Netherlands from the end of the 17th century.

  • Description

    Kan van porselein met een gedrukt, peervormig lichaam, ringvormige verdikking in de nek en c-vormig oor, beschilderd in onderglazuur blauw. Op de buik een doorlopend landschap met een groep mensen bij bomen, rotsen en bloeiende planten. Op de nek een tweede landschap met een zittend persoon bij een rots. Het oor is gedecoreerd en heeft een gat, waarschijnlijk bedoeld voor een deksel. De vorm van de kan is naar voorbeeld van Duits aardewerken kannen uit Raeren en Westerwald. Arita, blauw-wit.
