Horatius Cocles Defending the Bridge in the Tiber

Diana Scultori (mentioned on object), c. 1557 - c. 1612

This is almost certainly a juvenile work by Diana Mantuana, engraved after a fresco by Giulio Romano. The composition looks somewhat awkward as the bridge is poorly rendered and the human proportions also leave much to be desired. This reflects the inexperienced hand of the artist, who learned how to engrave from her father but was taught neither anatomy nor perspective.
