Luizenplecht door een uitgehold blok aangegeven. Gewrongen spiegel, het hol wulf zeer schuin; geen details van hek, zijgalerij of roer. Zeeg aan beide uiteinden iets oplopend, één berghout en één reehout. Iets gepiekt rondspant.

Explanatory note

  • Pieter Glavimans Jr. nam in 1809 bij zijn terugkeer uit Frankrijk, waar hij scheepsbouw had gestudeerd, het ontwerp van het fregat La Vénus naar ontwerp van Sané mee. Het werd als uitgangspunt gebruikt voor het ontwerpen van drie Nederlandse fregatten van 44 stukken, de Van der Werff, de Meuse en de IJssel, die de geplande fregatten van 50 stukken Alcides en de Ridder of de Unie vervingen. De rompvorm verschilt aanmerkelijk van andere Nederlandse fregatten uit die tijd.

Entry

Polychromed wooden half bracket model of the starboard side of a three-masted ship, mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard painted blue.

The side of the ship is depicted by ribbands attached to frame moulds. The ribband that outlines the forecastle is missing, but its extent can still be deduced from the height of the five foremost frame moulds. The quarterdeck is outlined and has a square hance near the mainmast. The sheer rises slightly towards both ends. One wale and one sheer rail are indicated; the wale is painted black and the sheer rail ochre. The bow features an empty beakhead with a lace piece touching the bowsprit and a beakhead bulkhead with a hollow shape. The stern has a round tuck and a hollow counter with an extreme rake. The model does not have a taffrail, quarter galleries or a rudder. The hull is slightly S-bottomed and painted white below the waterline. The position of three masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form.

The model was mistaken for model number 266 (NG-MC-266) in the past and therefore carries an inventory label with this incorrect catalogue number.1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 300.

Pieter Glavimans Jr (1783-1813) returned from his studies in France in 1809 with the plans of La Vénus, one of Constructor General Jacques-Noël Sané’s (1740-1831) own designs. Back in Holland, Glavimans then produced this model, which was used for designing three Dutch frigates:2HNA 2.01.29.03 Dept. Marine, Aanhangsel II, inv. no. 7, no. 86. Van der Werff (50 guns), Meuse (44 guns) and Ijssel (44 guns), replacing the two scheduled 50-gun frigates Alcides and Ridder van de Unie, which were consequently never built.3A.A. Lemmers, Techniek op schaal. Modellen en het technologiebeleid van de Marine 1725-1885, Amsterdam 1996, pp. 126-44. The shape of the hull markedly differs from other Dutch frigates at the time.
