Gepolychromeerd mallenmodel (stuurboord) van een tweemaster. De huid boven het barkhout is gesloten, zeven geschilderde geschutpoorten op één dek. Voorschip uitgewerkt met galjoen en schegbeeld van een vergulde krul. Gewrongen spiegel, hol wulf, hek met drie lichten, geen zijgalerij; recht roer met vierkante roerkoning. Zeeg naar voor en achter iets oplopend, één barkhout en één reehout. Gepiekt rondspant. Schaal 1:40 (schaal op model).

Explanatory note

  • Drie brikken van 14 stukken, lang 26.5 m, werden door P. Glavimans Jz. in Rotterdam naar dit model gebouwd: de Vliegende Visch (1826-1829, gesloopt te Soerabaja in 1847), de Postillon (1830-1833, afgekeurd in 1849, voor de sloop verkocht in Hellevoetsluis in 1850), en de Arend (1833-1839, in 1855 kostschip in Rotterdam, niet meer genoemd na 1862).

Entry

Polychromed wooden half bracket model of the starboard side of a two-masted ship, mounted on a rectangular red, wooden backboard.

The side of the ship is depicted by ribbands attached to frame moulds. Above the wale the side is planked and painted black. Seven shadowed gun ports are painted on the side, indicating one continuous gun deck, highlighted by a horizontal white band. The sheer rises slightly to both ends. One wale and one sheer rail are indicated. The bow features a detailed beakhead ending in a decorative, gold-painted scroll. The cathead has a lion’s head, which is also painted gold. The stern has a round tuck, a hollow counter and a taffrail with three lights. Below the stern a straight, square-headed rudder is indicated. The hull is S-bottomed and painted white below the waterline. The model has two sets of channels rigged with deadeyes and chainplates. The position of two masts and the bowsprit, all painted white, is shown in a truncated form. Ahead of the main channel the entering steps are visible.

Three 14-gun aviso brigs, all 26.5 metres long, were built after this model by Pieter Glavimans Jansz (1768-1850) in Rotterdam:1J.M. Vliegende Visch (1826-29, broken up in Surabaya in 1847), Postillon (1830-33, decommissioned in 1849, sold for breaking up in Hellevoetsluis in 1850) and Arend (1833-39, receiving ship in Rotterdam in 1855, not mentioned after 1862).2A.J.
