Fragment of a woven fabric

anonymous, c. 1700 - c. 1720

The patterns of textiles woven in Amsterdam generally sprang from the weaver’s imagination and were based only loosely on Asian models. Chinese elements such as painted scrolls and a pagoda-like structure can be discerned in this fragment. Above all, the fabric had to have an exotic allure.

    Een fragment van bizarre zijdeweefsel. Groen en beige strepen, waarop een een patroon van bladeren, een parasol, Chinese architectuur met een pagoda-vormig gebouw met een poort waarin een leeuw. Zelfde als BK-NM-1237 (twee stuks)
