Ewer in the shape of a triton and a nereid

Johannes Lencker, c. 1620

This flagon in the form of a freestanding sculpture seems to defy the law of gravity. The stem is shaped like a dolphin with its tail curled up. Balancing on its tail fins is a triton, a sea creature with the torso of a man and the legs of a horse. A nereid – a sea nymph – sits on his back.
