Ovoid ewer with a dragon handle

Jug with handle in the form of a lion. China Tang period (618 - 906). Glazed stoneware. Under the glaze this jug is also white. The clayused for this jug is free of any elements which change colour during firing and has therefore remained white. The white stoneware of the late Tang period was the forerunner of the later porcelain. On loan from Mrs E.J. Erdman-Visser.

    Eivormige kan van steengoed, met een doorschijnend wit glazuur waarmee alleen de bovenste helft is bedekt. De tuit is met de hand gevormd en het oor is gemodelleerd in de vorm van een draak. Rond de tuit een band met ingegrifte lijnen. Xing, Tang.
