Dish with a Portrait of Prince William III as a Child

anonymous, 1658

Prince William III was eight years old when this dish with his portrait was made. The Delft pottery factories would continue to produce dishes and jugs with his portrait long after his death, not as royal commissions, but rather for private individuals intent on expressing their Orangist loyalties through such objects.
