The Valckenier family coat of arms is featured on the flat part of this dish. Depicted along its rim is the so-called court journey to the shogun, Japan’s highest military official. The Dutch undertook this trip from their trading post on Deshima every year to bring gifts and pay their respects to the shogun.

    Bord van hout met zwart, goud en zilver hiramakië (reliëf) en takamakie (vlak) lakwerk; de achterzijde in een fijn bruinrood nashiji lakwerk (van goud- en zilverfolie). Op het middenveld het wapen Valckenier onder een helmteken, Japans kustlandschap met riviermondingen, huizen, bruggen, mensen, wolkenflarden en een vlucht ganzen op de rand. Een verdikte goudgelakte liprand. Japan, ca. 1690-1700.
