Design for Printed Fabric (De Ploeg)

Carel Visser (mentioned on object), 1957

In the 1950s several textile manufacturers commissioned modern artists to design patterns for their fabrics: a progressive initiative. Karel Appel, for instance, came up with patterns that were printed on clothing fabrics. And Carel Visser was asked to design furnishing textiles. His curtain material Ovika, produced by Weverij De Ploeg, was shown at the international Triennale di Milano in 1957. Visser submitted these drawings on paper for this project.
