Combing Hair
Hashiguchi Goyô (mentioned on object), 1920-03
This print was clearly made by a professional carver and printer: notice the detail of the woman’s hair. Yet Goyo saw himself as a sosaku-hanga artist. According to him, an artist did not have to make the entire print himself as long as he was closely involved in its execution. Gradually, more sosaku-hanga artists began to outsource parts of the execution of their work.
