Cloak Clasp
Ferdinand Erhart, 1899
Flowers and leaves were the main source of inspiration for the floral movement within Art Nouveau. A good example of this is the naturalistic detailing of this clasp, which was already considered one of the most important creations of this trend around 1900. Henri Vever, the first chronicler of the movement, described this object in his 1908 survey of French jewellery, La Bijouterie Française. The case indicates that this piece actually belonged to him and was retailed by Maison Vever.
