Candi Sewu met tempelwachters

Kassian Céphas (possibly), c. 1895 - c. 1915

Like Kinsbergen before him, Céphas was commissioned by the Archaeological Society in Yogyakarta to photograph the excavations and remains of ancient temples. This shot focuses on two of the enormous temple guards that even now keep watch over the four main entrances of the Buddhist temple of Candi Sewu.
