Drawstring purse with tassels

At the end of the 18th century, diaphanous and flowing gowns inspired by Classical antiquity came into fashion. Neither the fabrics nor the cut of these gowns were suited to pockets. As women needed ‘something’ to carry items such as a handkerchief, money or pomade (cream), they used purses of this kind.

    Buidel in een plat, zeshoekig model, van wit katoen met aan beide zijden verschillend floraal borduurwerk van wit katoendraad binnen een genopte rand, voorzien van vier katoenen kwasten. Aan vier punten een kwast van wit katoen. Door een tunnel langs de bovenrand is een dubbel gedraaid koord geregen met een kleine kwast aan de uiteinden. De buidel is ongevoerd.
