Bowl with pearl chasing dragons above swirling waves

anonymous, c. 1821 - c. 1850

This deep yellow was considered the ‘imperial yellow’, a colour reserved solely for use at court during the Ming (1368-1912) and Qing (1644-1912) Dynasties. This bowl continues the tradition of imperial yellow ware. The symbol of the five-clawed dragon signifies that its use was restricted to the emperor and his empress.

    Kom van porselein, bedekt met een monochroom geel glazuur. De buitenzijde van de kom met twee parel najagende, vijfklauwige draken tussen vlammen en wolken, boven kolkende golven. Binnen de voetring wit geglazuurd; gemerkt op de onderzijde met het zes-karakter zegelmerk van keizer Daoguang. Monochromen.
