Boddhisattva

anonymous, c. 500 - c. 600

This earthenware figure may have been based on a bronze model. The relief dates from the earliest period of Buddhist sculpture in China. Buddhism entered China from India around 150 AD. Indian influence is still visible in the fine, parallel folds of the clothing.
