Blouse

anonymous, 1900 - 1949

Bark cloth is made in the same way as paper. Tree bark is soaked in water and the wet substance is then beaten and pressed to extract the moisture. The resulting cloth is both soft and strong. The bottom of this traditional women’s blouse from Sulawesi is wide, to make room for a voluminous skirt underneath.
