Official uniform of Governor General J.B. van Heutsz, 1904. Van Heutsz (1851-1924) was governor general of the Dutch East Indies from 1904 to 1909. This was his uniform for official occasions. He also wore it for his portrait, shown here. Official uniforms became the norm under the French. Each government appointee had a uniform appropriate to rank and station.
