A deified woman

In the Majapahit kingdom on Java, members of the royal family were often identified with gods from Buddhism or Hinduism after their death. This relief represents the deified form of a queen or princess. She has four arms and is standing in a static, upright pose. She holds a lotus flower, a symbol of divinity, in her two front hands.

    Stenen beeld in hoog reliëf van een vergoddelijkte vrouw. De godin staat rechtop op een voetstuk in de vorm van een lotusbloem. Ze heeft vier armen, twee samengevouwen voor de buik met een lotusbloem in de palmen. Achter de uitgestrekte vingers van haar rechterhand is een waaier in de vorm van een kwast (camara). In haar linker achterhand houdt ze een lotus die als steunkussen dient voor een boek (pustaka).
